Sturbridge Village to Pumpkin Patch, Hermon ME

On Sunday, June 5, we drove to Outdoor World -Sturbridge RV, a little east of Springfield MA. We spent the late afternoon and night here. Monday we drove to Silver Springs which is near Saco ME. The plan is to spend a day here and do a little reminiscing. I work in Connecticut from Feb 1964 to Oct 1976. Occasionally we would visit this area with our kids. Old Orchard Beach was a favorite place to visit.

There was a nice beach, pier and an arcade, the kids favorite place, and a lot of open space. Of course today the “kids” are 47 & 46, with families of their own. A lot of things change over the years. Old buildings have been torn down and replaced with the new. Buildings were added and things are pretty much crowded.

The single story arcade is gone, replaced with the Grand Victorian

The pier is still there and so are the sea gulls

It was a surprise to see that most of the shops aren’t open yet. We asked a store keeper when the season gets going and he told us that it doesn’t get busy until the middle of June. Most of the stores on the pier were closed but the pirates were around

The arcade ahs turned into an amusement park. But, it too was closed.

There were a lot of people on the beach and several were swimming. I was cold walking around in shorts and a shirt.

On Wednesday, June 8, we drove to Hermon, ME and the Pumpkin Patch RV Resort. On Monday we will begin our 56 day RV caravan of the Canadian Maritimes. I am told that wi-fi, though spotty, should be available at most of the campgrounds we will be at. I’ll continue with updates as conditions allow.

Last night we sat around a campfire and met the people who will be the leader and tail gunner and two other couples. More will be arriving between now and the time we leave. BTW, the tail gunners job is to make sure no motor homes are left stranded on the road. If a motor home has a problem he will either fix it, if he can , or contact people who will make the proper repairs. Hopefully we will all not need his services.
